I have the honour to forward for your information an account of an incident that took place in the Tung-Kun district on the 28th July, when an attack was made upon the Reverend Mr. Zahn, a member of the Rhenish Mission, by Father Julien, a French Missionary. The matter was first dealt with in a leading article in the Hong Kong Daily Press of 11th September, of which I attach a copy. The writer sent the article to the Colonial Secretary.

2. As it affected the Tung-Kun district immediately north of our New Territory I requested the Colonial Secretary to communicate with Mr. Zahn who called upon him with Mr. Genahr who belongs to the same Mission. Mr. Genahr stated that the facts had been communicated by him to the Daily Press, and Mr. Genahr promised to send a statement that he intended to print. That statement has just been received,

and I enclose it, as it shows an extraordinary state of affairs existing between the Roman Catholic and Protestant
